Bonnie Kurtz for Drake's Allstars
Let's Walk!

Hi All Stars!  I'm two and half now and gearing up for another walk for MHDSA in September.  Are you ready?

Before I "pitch" the info about the walk, I thought you'd like to know what I've been doing to keep my family, friends, therapists and doctors on their toes since last year's walk.  Shortly after the walk my eye doctor hooked me up with some cool blue glasses.  I love to wear them and I find them rather entertaining to wear under my nose, around my neck and on my head.  Of course they work best on my eyes.  Mom and Dad say my specs are "tools not toys", but what do they know.

During the school year, Mallory and I participated in two sessions of music class and one session of gymnastics.  All of these classes are a lot more fun now that I can stand up, walk, run and march on my own.  I loved the spring floor at the recreation center and of course the drums and scarves in the music room.  I even sing with my sister. Since my birthday barnyard bash in January, I have been playing with my occupational therapist and speech therapist each week.  I also get to go hang out at Children's Hospital once a month to work with a really cool friend, Pat, who happens to be a physical therapist.  Sometimes Mallory comes with me and we get to explore the hospital and all their cool rooms and toys together.  Pat taught Mallory how to jump and now Mallory is teaching me.

Summer has been a lot of fun too. I've had a lot of road trips to Grandma & Pa Pa's ranch and to the mountains to camp and swim with family and friends.  I love to play on my slide, climbing toys and walk or kick a ball in the grass.  As you can tell from my picture, I'm working on t-ball too.  This summer I've also been busy visiting many doctors to figure out what is causing my sleep apnea.  Since my sleep study in June, I've met a lot of new folks who are going to help me sleep better.  Right now I'm using oxygen, but I am practicing with my CPAP mask.  They think this pressurized air will help me sleep and grow.  I'm not too sure yet, but the mask and hoodie are pretty cool.  I look like a fighter pilot or fireman when I have it on.  By the way this mask is a "tool not a toy", so I won't be able to let you borrow it.

One of my favorite places to go is the zoo.  There are lots of people, trees, walkways, go buggies and construction equipment.  Mallory says there are a lot of cool animals, but I just don't get what she and all these other people see in them. Watching Asian Tropics being built has been really cool.  I'm sure you'll be able to see it from the road in City Park for the Step Up Walk.

I can't wait to see you in September.  Join my team for a fun-filled day benefiting a great cause! Mile High Down Syndrome Association (MHDSA) needs our help to promote acceptance of all people with Down syndrome and raise much needed funds for their vital programs.  MHDSA has been there for my family since I was born and they continue to provide valuable resources for us.

Can't make it to the walk? Register as a virtual walker or make a donation!

Please come walk with me, a few of my friends and of course my family.  Let's walk and support MHDSA.  They're a pretty cool group that needs our help.

By the way, if you are a new member on my team or you need a new blue Drake's All Stars t-shirt, please email my mom, Kaylyn, at kaylynmc8123@msn.com with your t-shirt size.
